
NOT ONLY NEWS: Google has announced a fresh set of AdSense policy updates aimed at increasing transparency, enhancing user experience, and ensuring higher-quality content across its advertising network. The updated rules, now rolling out globally, are expected to directly impact millions of publishers, especially small creators and news websites relying on AdSense for revenue.
Under the latest changes, Google is shifting AdSense earnings to a per-impression payment model instead of the earlier click-based calculation. This new system is designed to give publishers more predictable revenue while ensuring advertisers get fair value for their campaigns. Google says the update will simplify how earnings are reported and reduce confusion around cost-per-click variations.
Another major rule focuses on stricter content eligibility. Websites with AI-generated, low-quality, or copied content will face limited ad serving or complete demonetisation. Publishers must now demonstrate consistent original work, proper sourcing, and meaningful user value to meet Google’s updated quality thresholds.
AdSense is also enforcing tougher guidelines on invalid traffic (IVT). Any suspicious activity—from bot-generated visits to accidental clicks caused by misleading ad placements—will result in reduced earnings or temporary suspension. To help creators avoid such issues, Google has introduced new analytics alerts and verification tools within the AdSense dashboard.
For privacy and security, websites are now required to comply with Google’s updated first-party data and consent policies, especially for users in regions with strong digital privacy laws. Publishers must clearly display consent banners and follow rules for personalised ads.
In the coming months, AdSense will continue refining its automated review systems and publisher onboarding process. Google says the changes aim to reward trustworthy creators, protect advertisers, and maintain a cleaner advertising ecosystem amid growing concerns over low-quality content and ad fraud.
