Assam Unrest; CM Calls For Emergency Meeting

NON Service : With law and order at unrest in Assam, due to the Assam Bandh called by AASU opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill, an important meeting has been called at Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s official residence.

All the spokespersons of the Assam BJP party have been invited for the meeting.

Party President Ranjit Das, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Naba Doley, Bhabesh kalita are among those leaders attending the meeting.

It may be noted that the state BJP leaders who maintained silence during the state’s struggle to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill, have now called for an emergency meeting due to the state’s present situation.

Some protesters stopped CRPF vehicle near the Dibrugarh University. Police used tear gas to disperse the supporters from the area. Later, the police used blank fire.

However, 20 protesters were detained by police from different area of Dibrugarh till filling of the report. Two policemen were injured in the protest.

Talking to the media, Surjeet Singh Paneswar said he got injured over pelting of stones on security forces. He said they have identified the bandh supports who vandalized the BJP office and pelted stones.

In Chabua, the bandh supports burnt tyres at NH37 and smashed bus window.

Violence has been reported from many places of the district and bandh supports burnt tyres in protest against the bill.
